Adelaide Strikers's History Under the Hood

The Adelaide Strikers were established in 2011 as one of the eight founding teams of the Australian professional Twenty20 Big Bash League (BBL) competition. Representing the state of South Australia, the Strikers play their home matches at the historic Adelaide Oval.

In their inaugural 2011-12 season, the Strikers failed to qualify for the semi-finals, finishing fifth in the table. Over the next few seasons under various captains, the team struggled to find consistency, languishing near the bottom half of the points table.

The Strikers’ breakthrough came in BBL 2017-18 when they lifted their maiden title under captain Travis Head. It was the first time since BBL’s inception that a team other than Perth Scorchers had won the tournament. The next season, Adelaide reached the finals again, eventually finishing as runners-up.

In the past decade since their formation, the Adelaide Strikers have emerged as a competitive T20 unit, delivering South Australian fans exciting cricket and their first and only championship thus far in 2018.
